Description
Roadhouse USA:
1969 Vintage Gibson Les Paul Custom Ebony Black Guitar W/OHSC.
The real deal, not a reissue, a 1969 Les Paul Custom.
As is often the case with vintage guitars such as this, they have a story to tell, so there is a lot to unpack with this vintage beauty:)
9.6 lbs.
Serial number 891910 which puts it at late 1969. It has the pancake body and slight volute.
The finish is original and has a beautiful natural relic’ing from years of playing as you can see. There are many marks etc, the pictures tell the tale and it is in the kind of heavy aged condition that you would pay for a Muphy Aged Les Paul today.
No breaks or signficant cracks etc. I have used a black light and it shows a couple of minor touch ups, nothing more.
The tuners have been changed to Grovers. It was re-fretted at some point.
The pickups are original (see pics)
At one point, there were three coil tap switches, which were removed and plugged. The plugs are easily removed if a different way of dealing with the holes is desired.
The pickup switch was replaced and you can see the shots of the control cavity for the wiring.
The neck is great, the ebony board is awesome and it plays well. Awesome vibe with this guitar as you might expect.
Some details:
1 11/16′ nut
Pancake body with small volute
No dot on the i of the Gibson Headstock Logo
No “Made in USA” on back of Headstock
Medium to slim/medium C shape neck (.83-.84 at first fret). Wonderful light C – not too slim, close to medium. Some bumps and divots on the back of the neck are to be expected and are noticeable, but still plays great. Neck looks to be solid one piece mahogany.
Original case is pretty beat up outside as is usually the case, but the interior is fine.
Overall, this is a very cool, and very playable original ’69 LP Custom. Its not perfect, obviously, but then again, its not $20k+ either.
If you are looking for a great player with true vintage vibe, this is a pretty cool option.
