A Stylish Nod to the ’58 Flying V

The Gibson Flying V is a stylish nod to the radical design of the 1958 original. It delivers scorching rock tones and near-endless sustain, and the comfortable contour of its resonant mahogany body makes you want to play all night long. Wrapping your hand around the Flying V’s torrefied granadillo-capped SlimTaper neck invites breakneck fretboard pyrotechnics, and its cryogenically treated frets were built to last a lifetime. Your riffs and leads will be infused with classic tight low end, complex midrange, and sweet highs, courtesy of a pair of Burstbucker pickups. Whether you’re looking to add a little attitude to your collection, or simply want a high-class heavy metal axe, you’ll love Gibson’s Flying V.

Cryogenically treated frets last practically forever

The frets on your Gibson Flying V have been cryogenically treated, meaning that they were exposed to liquid nitrogen at around -300ºF. What’s the point of that? Well, it makes them stronger. In fact, cryogenically treated frets were found to last up to four times longer than standard frets during Gibson’s exhaustive testing process (roughly 277,000 string bends). Best of all, this treatment makes the frets stronger without making them harder, so they feel the same as standard frets. Thanks to its cryogenically treated frets, your Gibson Flying V will likely never need a fret job!

You just can’t beat the feel of this slim Flying V neck

The Flying V gives you the smooth feel and fast action of Gibson’s SlimTaper profile neck. Early Les Pauls had huge necks, but by 1960 the neck underwent several modifications, eventually becoming the standard SlimTaper carve. And when you add to that the ultra-smooth feel of its granadillo fingerboard, you get the best of both comfort and performance. In fact, the comfortable playability of its SlimTaper neck is, at least in part, the reason for its long-standing popularity on the metal scene. Many guitarists at Sweetwater appreciate Flying Vs for their fast-playing necks.

Burstbucker pickups deliver that timeless PAF humbucker tone

When it comes to capturing that classic Gibson tone, nothing beats the sound of Burstbucker pickups. You’ll love the tight low end, complex midrange, and sweet highs you’ll get out of these pickups — it’s everything you expect when you pick up a Gibson! That’s because Burstbucker pickups were designed to re-create the sound of original PAF humbuckers to perfection. So if you want the time-tested tone of a classic Gibson, the Flying V is the guitar for you.
